Front Yard Retreat
The client wanted to transform their sloped front yard from a mound of dirt and random boulders into a garden with a patio area that would allow them to sip morning coffee and engage with the neighbors. All that was kept from the original site was a large dogwood tree and the existing concrete steps and landing to the front door.
Stepping stones along the driveway were nestled between groundcover to give added space to walk up to the front door. Once there, a gravel and flagstone pathway leads to an intimate circular paver patio which gives the client a comfortable space to sit and enjoy the garden. The Belgard Mega Arbel pavers used, blend in well with flagstone stepping stones and help give the garden a rustic feel. The level area for the patio was created by building a gorgeous basalt stone wall which gently frames the beautiful dogwood tree. Several basalt boulders also help to stabilize the slope and create pockets for plants to get established.
The lush plantings help soften all the stone and add interest and color throughout the seasons. Cedar trees flank the side yard to create privacy from the newly constructed house next door and stone slab steps lead up to a side yard with raised beds that provide an abundance of fruits and veggies.

Curb Appeal Upgrade
The challenge for this project was to create a seating area on a steep slope that felt intimate yet still had enough room to allow access to the side yard. We also needed to keep the soil from eroding in the areas where there wasn’t a wall and make sure plants would be able to get established and thrive. Creating privacy from the street as well as from the new house getting built also needed to be taken into consideration.
