As the owner of a landscape design/build company, I often get to experience the joy and privilege of building amazing landscapes. Every project starts the same with a simple conversation about the client’s yard. From there, the design process begins involving hours and hours of consideration as the design team dreams up an amazing space. Things get shifted and redrawn, then the final plan is presented to the client. Upon acceptance, the job gets scheduled and the real work begins. Of course, things always get worse before they get better, but after months of construction, the job is completed.
That’s when it happens – something magical. The project becomes bigger than the designers that dreamed it, the team that installed it and the home owners that imagined something great. It takes on a life of its’ own – like a child being born, and all one can do is stand in awe of it. This project was one of those, and our team at Blessing Landscapes is honored to have won the Oregon Landscape Contractors Association (OLCA) Grand Award for it.
I’m not sure who was more thrilled to win – the homeowners or us. I’ll never forget the text I received after our client found out we won. It was very simple, but I could feel his excitement when he replied, “AWESOME!!!”
I’d like to give special thanks first and foremost to our clients who made this all possible. Without your trust in us and the vision we shared with you for your yard, none of this would have happened. To Roger Anderson, Blessing Landscapes Designer, for being part of the design team and helping lay out the incredible amounts of plants on the project. Also, to Dave Ferron with Unique Lighting and Charlie Gitzen with Horizon for helping design and install the awe-inspiring lighting system. To Aaron with Curtis Heintz Excavation, thank you for graciously bearing all my two-inch adjustment requests on countless 6,000-pound boulders. And, of course our very own Blessing Landscapes Construction Team: David Dillon & Christian Perez – your craftsmanship and dedication to the project were phenomenal. Thank you for your commitment to a job well-done and congratulations to all who contributed to the success of this project! Thank you OLCA and all the volunteers who invested hours to manage this great Awards Program. It is such an encouragement to our staff to have one of these under our belt and we look forward to submitting other projects in the future!
